    2. Gay Friendly Driver Bali

I was looking for driver recommendations if anyone could help! My partner and I (both women) are going to in two weeks and staying in and wanted to look at organising a driver. We ideally wanted someone gay friendly, but also both of us are really shy and bad at small talk and find that chatting in the so awkward! I was in Bali before (with a friend) and all the drivers were so lovely but were constantly asking about marriage/husbands/babies which I know is fine but I know will send our awkwardness and anxiety into overdrive!Does anyone know of a driver who’s be a good fit? You will find that all over!! Its part of the small talk along with a question about your religion. You could just say that you are in a relationship with each other and there is no marriage or children on the horizon if that's what you plan. Pretty every one in is very tolerant and I don't think that will be a problem.

Message me if you would like the name of an Ubud driver who is lovely and wouldn't mind at all. His neighbours are gay and he gets on really well with them. Don't think you can avoid the questions about marriage and kids though.

Just shrug your shoulders and say 'Tidak ada' Means no to whatever you are being asked about. You may get some sympathy looks but its just part of the culture. Sometimes I just make up a hubby and kids, but if you're going to meet anyone more than once this can be awkward!!! Very funny when it happens!!

Hi Carherine,The drivers are just being friendly. It is a cultural thing. If you've been before then you know is gay friendly and the Balinese are a very tolerant people (I mean that in a nice way) e.g overtly expression of affection whether gay or straight, although something you shouldn't do in Bali, the Balinese would never say anything.I wouldn't get anxious. Whether gay or straight there are also many Solo travellers or friends who have no partners who are in the same boat.

My daughters female friend (26yrs) is currently in Bali, solo, single and no doubt will have the same questions. Is this a joke?Homosexuality is frowned upon all over and there are very strict repurcussions. Not long ago a gay couple (both women) were sentenced to 600 lashes and sentence conducted in public in Banda Aceh province.A gay christian lawmaker was forcefully evicted out of his home and sent to prison for three years years ago.I hope you reconsider your travel to Indonesia and be mindful for what you are posting, unless of course if you're taking a piss being bored and trying getting away from the heat.

Pauldyce45 I think you will find that is very different indeed from Aceh where yes homeosexuality is openly punished. Yes it is strictly speaking illegal all over, but the Balinese are a very tolerant people and there are many gay people openly in relationships who not only travel but live there as well quite happily. I think the girls have every right to ask for what they want in this forum without any fear of repercussions and while the Balinese may think they are a little strange in their lifestyle, most likely no more than heterosexual people who are childless or even more weird - without religion. Unless the girls begin preaching about the joys of being lesbian or make out in public (frowned upon with heterosexuals as well) they are not likely to have any problems.
